David M. Hernke, D.V.M.


David was raised in St. Charles, Missouri. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering. Assigned to Aviation Branch, he attended Army Flight School at Ft. Rucker, Alabama and advanced qualification course in the Blackhawk utility helicopter. Over the next seven years David served in various command and staff roles in the Republic of South Korea, Army Aviation Training Center and Fort Bragg, North Carolina, including a six month deployment to Afghanistan in 2002 with the 92nd Airborne Division for which he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.

Returning to school at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine, he pursued his interest in food animal medicine. He graduated with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in May 2008 and will be attending the Cornell Summer Dairy Institute to receive advanced education in bovine health and dairy production medicine. He is a current member of the American Veterinary Medicine Association, American Association of Bovine Practitioners and American Association of Equine Practitioners. He has volunteered with both the Humane Society of the United States rural area veterinary service and ASPCA shelters.
